Solo Roots/Folk artist James Bennett’s long awaited third album titled ‘This Time Tomorrow’ is finally here. James incorporates many different elements into his performances including Weissenborn Lap Steel, 11 & 6 string guitars, stomp box, tambourine, harmonica & a truly unique vocal style.
How Chance Led To A New Album
“This Time Tomorrow came about by chance,” says Newcastle-based solo artist James Bennett. “John Butler’s ex drummer/percussionist Michael Barker popped up on my Facebook page as a suggested friend. I’d been thinking about who to contact to play drums/percussion so I reached out to him in a message to see if he’d be keen to come to Australia to record. To my total disbelief, he was not only keen to play on the songs but invited me to record with him at his home studio in Rotorua /NZ.”
In December 2018 James headed across to New Zealand to spend four days in the studio with Michael Barker recording the songs for his new album which included the two singles ‘Weird World’ (released in April 2019) & ‘Gypsy Love’ (released in June 2019).
Quirky Facts about James Bennett
James was born in Byron Bay, is left-handed but plays the guitar right-handed. He went to 12 different schools and never signed out of year 11 so is technically still enrolled. His birthday is 06/06/90 and he turned 16 on 06/06/06. All of his albums were recorded in different countries, he has never had a music or singing lesson in his life, can’t read music and can tune a guitar by ear. He recorded Bob Dylan songs on a tape recorder with his brother when he was about 8 but doesn’t think he will show anyone…
From Byron Bay to Hollywood
A total of nine tracks are set to be on This Time Tomorrow with everything from sweet Weissenborn lap steel songs featuring harmonies by the one & only ‘Wendy Matthews,’ to quirky upbeat tunes like the first single ‘Weird World.’ James has put together an album release tour to bring the new album into the world in the most intimate & engaging way possible.
While this will be James’ debut performance at The Rhythm Hut, he plays over 100 shows per year and has independently recorded & released two EP’s & two albums.
His 2017 album release ‘Run with the Hunted’ was recorded in Hollywood CA with highly respected Producer/Engineer Scott Campbell who has worked with industry names such as Alanis Morissette, Stevie Nicks & Tom Petty.
Over the last few years James has warmed up the stage for many Aussie artists: The John Butler Trio, Diesel, Jeff Lang, The Whitlams, Wendy Matthews, Ian Moss, The Black Sorrows, Vika & Linda Bull, Rick Price & Dan Sultan, and international artists Newton Faulkner (UK) and Canned Heat (USA).
