The best decision I made for 2015 was signing up for Taiko 1 at The Rhythm Hut. I’ve always wanted to learn drums, I needed to get fit and was looking to meet some new, like-minded people on the coast.
As I write this, my arms are still sore from class, I’ve just bought a ticket to see the Dustin Thomas gig next Friday and I’m feeling more alive than I have for a long time.
Marcus has taught us a phenomenal amount of rhythms and moves in just 4 lessons and having Rendra teach us in his absence last week really brought home the technique and true essence of Taiko drumming.
The classes are intense, fun, informative, exhausting and well worth giving a go. You’ll be hooked as soon as your sticks hit that Taiko drum, the sound is enough to give you goosebumps! What a rush!
I really feel I’ve found a fun, professional, uplifting and sacred space to play, that is supportive and open, like family.
I’m sure the KABOOM! performance will be entertaining, I’ll be the one at the back, going the wrong way ha ha!
There’s so much to explore here, so much going on every week and there’s classes and gigs to suit everyone.
My only wish is that I had walked in the front door of this place years ago.
