Supporting Elwood Myre on the night is Maia Marsh and Woodie
Maia Marsh is the new band project of singer/songwriter Maia Jelavic. WithMaia’s solo career heavily rooted in Folk music, the Sydney-based four-piece are amping things up a bit, and heading towards some kind of indie-folk-rock of their own; “Ditching old songs, transforming others, and creating something completely altogether”. After Maia’s well-received debut EP which was released in late 2013 and toured 2014, she has been steadily performing over the last three years throughout Sydney, Melbourne and the East Coast of Australia. In 2015 Maia joined Winsconsin band, The Sharrows, and toured across America through the mid-west to NYC, also playing the occasional solo show along the way, with a noteable performance supporting Boston band, The Ballroom Thieves.
With an interesting mix of musical influences from the classic folk sounds of Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Laura Marling and The Staves, versus a household upbringing of Kings of Leon, The White Stripes and The Iron Giant Movie Soundtrack constantly ringing around her ears, Maia hits home with the intense depth and honesty within her lyrics, and tells her stories with a fierce, driving force. Based in Sydney, she has seen stages such as Brighton Up Bar, Newtown Social Club, The Vanguard and Oxford Arts Factory, and played at well known shows such as Sofar Sounds, Little Features, High Tea, Porchlight Sessions and Home Sweet Home and Gracelands (Melbourne).
Singer songwriter Woodie McClean brings to stage his acoustic guitar andsmooth vocals in a homage to soulful artists such as Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Allen Stone. Woodie weaves together the genres Soul, Jazz, Blues and Folk to create his unique tone and sound.
Woodie was encouraged to find his voice through performance at secondary school, and continues his presence on the stage currently studying a Bachelor of Music at the Newcastle Conservatorium Playing an array of originals and covers keeping the groove strong and your feet clapping.
